Johnnie & Thelma Mouning

a Library of Legacy

On August 26, 1957, Johnnie Lee Mouning and Thelma Louise Lofton were married.  Thus began the beginning of their portion of The Mouning Family Legacy.  They were married for over 50 years until Johnnie’s untimely death at 69 years old.  Through the years they took thousands of photographs and wrote several books about their family and life together.

Much of their legacy began as they participated in The Great Migration from North Carolina to Connecticut in 1959.  There were many seasons of blessing and some challenging times but they endured together.  This website is designed to publicly share some of their legacy and to help keep their legacy alive.

Johnnie and Thelma Mouning left behind an incredible legacy of literature and photographs, which we showcase in our library.
